BHS Students Receive Recognition During All-School Awards Ceremony

Bronxville High School celebrated all of its students’ outstanding academic and athletic achievements, as well as their contributions in the classroom and beyond, throughout the school year during its annual Academic Awards ceremony on June 13.

Teachers and administrators gave out awards to students in grades nine through 12 in a variety of categories, including academic excellence, classroom leadership, citizenship, music and drama, art, foreign languages, science, math, online learning, as well as a number of community, memorial, national and state awards.

The Lighthouse Award, which is sponsored by the Bronxville School Foundation, was awarded to junior Charles Vorbach for exemplifying the school’s educational ideals of enthusiasm for learning, pride of accomplishment, self-discipline, self-esteem and consideration for the ideas and values of others. He also received the award for his selfless dedication and service to his school and community.

Senior Natalia Kaminski received the SFL Award, which is presented annually to the student who has served as president of the Student Faculty Legislature.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Quattrone presented the annual Louis H. Braun Superintendent’s Award to senior Brennan O’Toole. She received the award for demonstrating excellence in academics and fulfilling the dispositions of the Bronxville Promise by demonstrating innovation, leadership, critical thinking and engaged citizenship.

Principal Ann Meyer awarded senior Matthew Bettino with the annual Principal’s Award, which recognizes a student for his outstanding citizenship, for demonstrating high ideas and standards of conduct, and contributing to the life of the high school.

Following the awards ceremony, students dedicated this year’s yearbook to elementary school science teacher Tim Curran, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Then, they gathered on the front lawn for the school’s annual picnic.
