The Bronxville School will celebrate the grand opening of its renovated auditorium with a reception on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Members of the community are invited to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby with a string quartet performance followed by the official start of the program at 7 p.m.
The grand opening celebration will feature performances by members of the Bronxville High School Chorus, Orchestra and Band. Several alumni are expected to join in. Bronxville Board of Education President Denise Tormey and Chairman of the Facilities Committee David Brashear will deliver the opening remarks, followed by a special recognition of donors and others who were instrumental in the success of the renovation project.
Originally built in 1924, the Bronxville School auditorium has been transformed into a sophisticated, multi-use, high-performance theater through a complete renovation and reconstruction, which was finished this fall. The auditorium features new seating configurations, balconies, new theater and HVAC systems, lighting and acoustic enhancements, restoration of original windows and a new lobby addition. It is designed to be cost-effective, energy-efficient and sustainable, and it has improved function, quality and accessibility.
The auditorium was designed by KG&D Architects and the project was supervised by Park East Construction. District funds for the project (including the middle school science labs) totaled $7.5 million, augmented by $2.5 million that was raised by the Bronxville School Foundation, Bronxville PTA and private citizens.
