Seven Students Named to Area All-State Ensembles

Seven Bronxville High School students have been selected for Area All-State music ensembles by the Westchester County School Music Association for its 2015 Area All-State Festival Concert to be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 at SUNY Purchase.

Junior Michael Landy will serve as principal oboist of the Area All-State Band. He has also been named to the 2015 New York All-State Symphonic Band. Sophomore string bassist Eva Cagliostro and junior violinist Remi Laurence will perform with the String Orchestra.

Seniors John George Brakatselos, bass, and Alekzandra Thoms, soprano, have been selected to perform with the Mixed Chorus. Fellow seniors Noor Banihashem Ahmad, soprano, and Caroline Schetlick, alto, were selected for the Women’s Chorus. Thoms was also named to the New York All-State Mixed Chorus, while Schetlick recently performed with the 2015 All-National Mixed Choir in Nashville, Tennessee.

Performers were chosen by WCSMA on the basis of auditions at last spring’s New York State School Music Association Solo Evaluation Festival. WCSMA, which is the county’s arm of NYSSMA, sponsors the Area All-State Music Festival each year for eligible Westchester sophomores, juniors and seniors.
