Students performed Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” directed by Peter Royal, in the newly renovated auditorium on Nov. 13 and 14. The performances were staged on a minimalist set and featured the newly installed balconies, lights and enhanced acoustics. The student-actors had mastered their lines and Shakespearean language to give audience members an outstanding show.
“I loved using the balconies as part of the playing space, and the lighting system was what I might refer to as magical,” Royal said. “The color choices made for a very fantastical evening. I played some Mendelssohn on the sound system and it sounded incredible.”
Royal believes the play was perfect for the opening of the new performance space, and he wished success to all current and future students who will use it and perform in it.
“My goal from the outset was to present the new space in a beautiful way, and I think we achieved that,” he said. “We christened our new space on its way for the first of many voyages to come.”
The cast of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” included Natalie Arenzon, Allison Barker, Rachel Billings, Rachel Bothwell, Max Clark, Caroline Dent, Maxine DeWitt, Hana Eddib, Grayson Elder, Tomas Gibbons, Lauren Gray, Ashley Kaye, Patrick Krall, Amy Kwok, Thomas Neville, Matthew Pytosh, Liam Smyth and Will Tague.
