Third-Graders ‘Meet the Athlete’ for Lessons on Sportsmanship

A group of Bronxville High School student-athletes teamed up with Bronxville Elementary School third-graders during the annual “Meet the Athlete Day” on April 24 to discuss the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty and hard work.

Organized by the athletic department and Athletic Council, the event provided the athletes with an opportunity to share some of their most memorable sports experiences and discuss how they’ve been able to balance athletics and academics. The athletes also answered questions from the younger students and provided them with valuable advice.

Junior Mac Crawford, a soccer and lacrosse player, and vice president of the Athletic Council, said he enjoyed interacting with the younger students and hearing about their experiences with sports. One girl described to him that her soccer team improved because of teamwork this season, and another child shared how he worked hard to become a better lacrosse player.

“Everything starts at such an early age, whether it’s advancing the sport or advancing your character or personality, so instilling in them at such a young age that sportsmanship is key, is going to benefit them in the future,” Crawford said.
