Thirty-Two Students Selected for All-County Ensembles

Thirty-two Bronxville students have been selected for All-County music ensembles by the Westchester County School Music Association for its 2016 Elementary and Intermediate Festival concerts, which will be held on March 5-6 at SUNY Purchase.

The Elementary Festival includes students in grades four through six. Selected for the Elementary Orchestra are fourth-grade cellists Susanna and Ria and fifth-grade violinists Saya and Eugene. Selected for the Elementary Band are fifth-grader Aidan (French horn) and sixth-graders Lauren Giuriceo (clarinet), Carl Tamussino (trombone) and Alice Vranka (clarinet). Named to the Elementary Chorus are fifth-grade sopranos Isabela, Katie, Ava and Anabelle; fifth-grade altos Ava, Ruthanne and Naischa; sixth-grade sopranos Maggie Lockwood and Cate Spitz; and sixth-grade altos Ella Gottlieb, Lucy Jackson and Charlotte Yerkes.

“We are very proud of our musicians and singers who were selected for the All-County ensembles,” Bronxville Elementary School Principal Tricia Murray said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their talents.”
The Intermediate Festival includes students in grades seven through nine. Selected for the Intermediate Orchestra are seventh-grade violinists George Daher and Elaina Poulos, eighth-grade cellist Sabrina Mellinghoff and ninth-grade oboist Sophia Sulimirski. Selected for the Intermediate Band is eighth-grade trumpeter Theo Sperber. Named to the Intermediate Chorus are seventh-graders Megan Barker (soprano), Annabelle Krause (alto), Caroline Palermo (soprano), Safiya Patel (alto) and Izaak Thoms (tenor), eighth-grade baritone Xavier Layton and ninth-grade soprano Lily Vorbach.

The instrumentalists were chosen by the WCSMA on the basis of auditions at last spring’s New York State School Music Association Solo Festival, where they were required to perform a solo piece, sight-read and play scales. The singers were chosen by their school’s choral director on the basis of skills and interest.
