Bronxville Arts Festival Showcases Student Creativity

The Bronxville School celebrated creativity during the annual Bronxville Arts Festival, held May 18-19. Over the course of two days, students from across all grade levels showcased their talents in the visual and performing arts. 

The celebration featured a large-scale, student-created art installation displayed on the school’s front lawn, where community members gathered to enjoy the festivities. Student musicians from the jazz band performed a selection of pieces lead by Uma Karkala, and middle school students performed scenes from their recent production of “Annie Jr.,” directed by Hannah Geiling. The High School Arts Society added to the lively atmosphere by hosting an Open Mic session, organized by presidents Katie Fezza and Louise Jacobs, advised by Courtney Alan, allowing student performers to take the stage and share their talents. The PTA Arts Council also helped organize the events and sculptures on the front lawn.

Inside the school, the walls were filled with artwork created by students from kindergarten through 12th grade, showcasing a year of creativity, imagination, and self-expression. The auditorium lobby featured work by Advanced Placement Art students under the guidance of Courtney Alan, while the atrium displayed pieces from other high school art classes led by Alan and Marijke Briggs. In the rotunda, middle school students’ work, guided by Jackie D’Arco, was on display, and the south playroom featured artwork by elementary school students under the direction of Leigh Merin and Rachel Vining.

“This year was special because it was the fifth year of the full arts festival on the front lawn, so the PTA brought back all five of the collaborative sculptures during the events,” art teacher Courtney Alan said. “It was a gorgeous night.”
