Bronxville Middle School students delivered an exceptional performance at the NYC Metro West Regional Competition on Saturday, February 28. The event was facilitated by International Academic Competitions and qualified students for the National and International Competition of National History Bee and US History Bee, which takes place in Orlando May 21 to 25.

Competing against students from across the Metro New York area, Bronxville’s eighth grade team rose to the challenge in what was the largest and most competitive division.

Representing Bronxville Middle School were Richard Sullivan, Jamie Putnam, Fergus Olwell, Anders Widen, Luka Verulashvili, and Charlie Allen.

Charlie Allen qualified for the National Competition and won a special distinction, earning a silver medal for second place overall in the final round.

Anders Widen scored so well that he qualified not just for the National Competition but for the International Competition as well.

Richard Sullivan, Jamie Putnam, and Fergus Olwell also qualified for the National Competition through their strong performances. Luka Verulashvili had a strong performance, missing national qualifying standards by one point.

Students qualified by taking tests and participating in three rounds of Jeopardy style questioning on a wide range of historical topics. Top scorers faced off in the final round.

Reflecting on the students’ performance, teachers Christina Reidel and Jennifer Liberman shared:

“Our students truly impressed us with their historical knowledge and ability to thrive under pressure. Because of the Jeopardy-style format, they had to think fast and take risks, often buzzing in before a question was fully read. Doing all of this while parents and teachers watched closely made their outstanding performance even more commendable.”

Bronxville Middle School congratulates these talented students for representing the school community with excellence and academic distinction.
