Bronxville Middle School families gathered in the auditorium for an engaging and insightful evening with Phyllis Fagell, school counselor and author of the widely acclaimed book Middle School Matters.

This event focused on navigating what Fagell describes as the “messy middle” years, offering parents a practical roadmap to support their children through one of the most transformative stages of development. Drawing from her expertise as both a counselor and author, Fagell shared actionable strategies to help students build resilience, strengthen self-confidence, and develop the social and emotional tools necessary to thrive.

Throughout the evening, families explored ways to support growing independence while remaining steady, trusted guides. The conversation reinforced the importance of open communication, empathy, and meeting students where they are developmentally as they manage increasing academic and social expectations.

The event was made possible through the generous support of the Bronxville PTA’s Be Well Committee, in partnership with the Bronxville Middle School Counseling Team, Tim Nelson and Samantha Mazo. Together, they continue to provide meaningful opportunities for families to engage in conversations that support the well-being and success of Bronxville students.

Bronxville Middle School remains committed to partnering with families to ensure that students not only navigate the middle school years successfully, but truly flourish.
