Members of Bronxville High School’s Fuller Center Club participated in a community build on March 21 in Yonkers, creating memorial benches to honor families affected by the September 11 attacks.

After preparing the site, the students measured and cut wood to construct three benches, which will be gifted to families who lost loved ones in the attacks.

“I have participated in many builds; however, the build was especially important to me,” said Colette Ungvary, a senior and the club’s president. “It was extremely fulfilling to help make these benches, especially with the upcoming 25th anniversary of 9/11. For me, this build reinforced the importance of serving a larger community and honoring those who have passed, as well as working to fulfill a large goal even in a small group. The dedication and work shown from our volunteers was truly inspiring and something I hope to pass to more members of the club.”

MacKenzie O'Gorman, a junior, said she appreciates being able to make a difference in her community through her work with the Fuller Center.

“I enjoyed this build in particular because it was so fulfilling,” she said. “The time we spent building the benches was productive and meaningful as we made an impact in the community and found a serviceable way to commemorate 9/11.”

The club is advised by teachers Chris Doyle and Zhanna Cabrera, who praised the students’ teamwork and commitment in completing the project in just three hours.
