Butterflies Take Flight in Science Celebration for First Graders

First graders marked the end of a two-week study of metamorphosis by releasing butterflies into the world on May 12. The hands-on experience brought science lessons to life in a meaningful and memorable way.

Throughout the unit, the students carefully observed each stage of the butterfly life cycle, learning about its transformation from caterpillar to butterfly.

“The students have been so engaged throughout this science unit, and it was a joy to see their faces light up as they watched the butterflies take flight,” science teacher Veronica Lindahl said.
To make the celebration even more memorable, the first graders sang a lively song about the butterfly life cycle and wore colorful hats they created in class.
