Model UN Students Tour United Nations Headquarters

A group of Bronxville High School students – members of the Model UN Club – toured the United Nations headquarters in New York City on May 29, gaining firsthand insight into the organization’s history, mission and global impact. 

During their visit, the students explored exhibits featuring artifacts from Hiroshima, displays highlighting Human Rights and commemorative art donated by member nations of the UN. They also visited one of the council chambers, where discussions on decolonization once took place, and toured the General Assembly Hall, where they learned about its design, operations and the historic events that unfolded there. 

“This was a great experience for the entire club; we really enjoyed learning about the history of the UN and its goals,” said Rishaan Brainch, the club’s treasurer. “A trip to the United Nations has long been discussed by the Model UN club, but this was the first time the group was able to make it happen.”

For many students, the trip was especially meaningful as they began to consider future career goals and aspirations. Margaret Stein, the club’s secretary general who plans to major in international relations this fall, said the trip provided a valuable opportunity to observe diplomats and UN workers.  

“It was really valuable that we were able to see people working in the UN,” she said. “I hope for some club members this trip was both educational and inspirational for what their futures might bring.”

The students were accompanied on the trip by club adviser Martin Patmos and his fellow social studies teacher Dana Landesman.
