Bronxville High School students from Martin Patmos’ Advanced Placement Macroeconomics classes had a unique opportunity to connect with Joseph A. LaVorgna, a nationally recognized economist and Bronxville resident, on Dec. 13.

With over 25 years of experience in banking and finance, service at the Federal Reserve in New York, and roles at the White House and as chief economist of the National Economic Council, LaVorgna brought unparalleled expertise to the classroom. During an engaging lunchtime session, the students posed thoughtful questions and gained insight into key topics, including inflation, unemployment, GDP measurement and the challenges of economic modeling. LaVorgna also shared personal perspectives on his career journey, inspiring seniors with his advice on transitioning from college to the professional world.

“Always be intellectually curious,” he told the students. “Keep your options open, as what you like will change over time.”

The discussion left the students with a deeper appreciation of economics and allowed them to see how classroom concepts apply in real-world scenarios
