In lieu of the annual traditional Halloween party, members of Bronxville High School’s Autism Awareness Club delivered care packages to students in special-needs classes and connected with them over Zoom.
Spearheaded by club members Tim Atkeson, Liam Heraty, Ted Heraty and Hope Hershberg and under the guidance of club adviser Bill Meyer, the students got creative this year by putting together individual goodie bags consisting of candy, sticky spiders, Play-Doh and stickers. They delivered them, along with individual pumpkins, to special-needs students before inviting them to a Halloween party over Zoom.
“It was a huge success and so rewarding to watch all the students have a great time,” Meyer said. “The high school students definitely recognize the uniqueness of this school year, but also the importance of building community at this time.”
