Bronxville High School students were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions in the classroom and beyond during an awards ceremony on June 12.
They received awards in categories including innovation, critical thinking, leadership, engaged citizenship and the Heart of the Promise, as well as music and drama, art, foreign languages, science, math, athletics and school spirit. In addition, a number of community, memorial, national and state awards, as well as college and university book awards, were bestowed upon deserving students.
Alejandro Diaz received the Mercellus Lessane III Award, which is presented in honor of retiring Bronxville High School Assistant Principal Mercellus Lessane III, who has served the high school for 24 years. The award was presented to Diaz for exemplifying the characteristics of courage, compassion and integrity.
Thomas Henningson received the Lighthouse Award, sponsored by the Bronxville School Foundation, for exemplifying the school’s educational ideals of enthusiasm for learning, pride of accomplishment, self-discipline, self-esteem, and consideration for the ideas and values of others. He was also recognized for his selfless dedication and service to school and community during his time at Bronxville and for fostering those ideals in others.
Kathleen Heraty received the SFL Award, presented annually to the student who has served as president of the Student Faculty Legislature.
Antonio Tao-Guerrero was awarded the Louis H. Braun Superintendent’s Award for demonstrating excellence in academics, leadership and service to the school.
Simos Dimas received the annual Principal’s Award, which recognized him for his outstanding citizenship, demonstrated through high ideals and standards of conduct, as well as for his contributions to the life of the high school.
