The Bronxville School District Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roy Montesano are pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Mercora as Bronxville Elementary School principal.
Mercora is a seasoned administrator, having served most recently as principal of Upper Nyack Elementary School in Nyack for the last five years. During his tenure, he was instrumental in creating a collaborative schoolwide culture in the elementary school that brought together faculty in the lower and upper elementary grades to work together in creating and implementing curriculum that focuses on project-based learning. Prior to that, he served as assistant principal of Nyack Middle School for eight years. He also has experience as a social studies teacher and principal in parochial schools, where he was named Principal of the Year.
“Mr. Mercora is full of energy and has a deep passion for elementary education,” Dr. Montesano said. “We look forward to welcoming him into our Bronxville school community.”
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s degree in education with a concentration in social studies and a master’s degree in education with a concentration in school administration and supervision from Iona College.
Following a rigorous interview process that included teachers, staff, administrators, parents and board members, Mercora was selected from a field of more than 70 candidates. The Bronxville School community will welcome him during meet-and-greet receptions for parents and students, as well as staff members on June 24.
Appointed during the board of education meeting on June 8, Mercora will step into his role on July 9.
