Bronxville Union Free School District Appoints Anthony Vaglica
as Elementary School Vice Principal

BRONXVILLE, NY, August 4, 2022 -- The Bronxville Union Free School District is pleased to share that, following a search process, Mr. Anthony Vaglica is being recommended to serve as the Assistant Principal of Bronxville Elementary School beginning August 8, 2022. The Board of Education will consider the appointment of Mr. Vaglica at its next meeting on September 1, 2022. He will work closely with newly-appointed Elementary School Principal Ms. Rakiya Adams and serve on the district’s administrative team.

Mr. Vaglica has worked for 13 years in each of the Bronxville schools as a physical and health education teacher, a special education teacher aide, a coach, and a leader in a wide range of extracurricular activities. His range of experience includes a focus on social and emotional learning (SEL) and inclusion for all students.

“Without question, my goal as a teacher and coach is to create positive experiences for all students and help them build confidence in themselves and their abilities,” said Mr. Vaglica. “I constantly look for innovative and exciting ways to enhance their educational experience and self-concept.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to do this work at the administrative level and to do so in partnership with such a fantastic group of educators,” he continued.

As a physical and health education teacher, Mr. Vaglica created and redesigned the district’s physical and health education curricula in the elementary and high schools. With a focus on the district’s athletic placement process, Mr. Vaglica also worked with the Athletic Placement Process Committee to review, recommend and implement policy changes. He has served as the elementary school Math Olympiad Coordinator, an RTI committee member, a member of the BTA executive council, head varsity baseball coach, PTA faculty liaison, teacher liaison to the athletic council, and the Bronxville After School Clubs Director and Safety Coordinator.

“Those who know Mr. Vaglica can see the passion and professionalism he brings to the many roles he plays for our district,” said Superintendent Dr. Montesano. “He is a strong leader and communicator, and I am confident that he will be a tremendous asset to the district in his role as Assistant Principal of the elementary school.”

In addition to his tenure with the Bronxville Schools, Mr. Vaglica also worked in the Chappaqua Central School District as the high school physical education and health teacher and coach of
several of its athletic teams. He earned his BA from Concordia College, where he was also a member of the baseball and cross country teams for four years. He has earned several professional diplomas and certifications from Manhattanville College in School Building and District Leadership, Health & Wellness Specialist, and a Master of Arts in Teaching, Physical Education, and Sport Pedagogy.

In July, BUFSD announced that Mr. Joe Mercora and Ms. Rakiya Adams, both of whom already held administrative roles in the district, will become the Principals of the Bronxville Middle and Elementary schools, respectively.
