Assistant Director of Special Education Christine Dowd

The Bronxville Union Free School District is pleased to share the announcement that Ms. Christine Dowd has been appointed as the Assistant Director of Special Education for Bronxville School

Ms. Dowd has been an integral part of the Bronxville School District for 18 years as a Special Educator, Special Education Curriculum Leader, and Bronxville School’s CPSE Chairperson. Ms. Dowd brings to this role an enormous amount of dedication and invaluable professional experience as a seasoned special educator. As both an educator and parent of a child with an IEP, she understands how important it is to be true partners in the process and journey; and paramount that families of students with special needs know they are supported at Bronxville School. Student advocacy is at the heart of Ms.Dowd’s life’s work and her guiding principle is to ensure that all students experience joy, connection, learning, and excellence.

Ms. Dowd is honored to continue her service and growth in the Bronxville School District, “Bronxville is a huge part of my heart. I have learned a tremendous amount from laboring alongside the most dedicated team of professionals for almost 20 years. I am grateful to have the opportunity to partner with the best teachers, school psychologists, counselors, related service providers, and staff to move the work forward together in supporting our students.” 

Ms. Dowd’s dedication to the Bronxville School District is reflected in her relentless pursuit of excellence for its teachers, staff, and students. For two years, she was the Teacher Resident Program coordinator for K-5 general and special education teachers where she mentored and inspired new teachers and partnered with local colleges to elevate future teachers and improve practice. Since 2016, Ms.Dowd has been a teacher mentor to Bronxville School’s special education teachers. Ms. Dowd sits on the Executive Committee Council for the Bronxville Organization of Learning Differences (BOLD) where she collaborates with families and community members to meet the diverse needs of students. 

“Christine’s dedication as a special educator is venerable. She is committed to building relationships in the school community and providing the best special education program for our students. She sets the bar incredibly high, and continually not only reaches it, but exceeds it,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rachel Kelly. “It is wonderful to have her in this position and part of our esteemed leadership team.”

In 2021, Ms. Dowd received her Ed.M degree from the Future School Leadership Academy at Bank Street College of Education. The experience she gained in the FSLA program expanded her educational perspective and provided mentorships and partnerships with educators and administrators across the region. Ms. Dowd earned her B.A.in English and Dual Certification in Elementary & Special Education from Mount Saint Mary College and MS.ED degree from Fordham University, and an Advanced Masters Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Brooklyn College. She holds several certifications in general education, special education, and building leadership. She is active in her home community where she is on the Board of Directors of The Mount Pleasant Education Foundation, parent member of Mount Pleasant School Building Leadership Team (BLT), and active in the school’s PTA and SEPTA organizations.
