Community Recognizes Girls Tennis Team for Earning State Championship Title
Bronxville, NY

Members of the Bronxville High School girls tennis team were recognized for their championship title by State Sen. Shelley Mayer and Village of Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin on March 1.

The team won the Division 1 New York State Public High School Athletic Association team state championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in a thrilling match against Cold Spring Harbor on Nov. 3, 2023. Coach Steve Klurfeld said there were more than 100 fans watching the matches, during which the Bronxville team stayed focused.

“The girls team had a rare combination of talent, comradery, humility and positivity,” Klurfeld said. “These athletes are involved in tennis because it’s a fun, lifelong sport, and they compete with the team to build friendships, represent the school, and better their tennis skills. They continued to pull for each other from the first day of the season, to the end of the team finals.”

Klurfeld said it was meaningful to receive recognition from Sen. Mayer and Mayor Marvin, who expressed how proud they were of the team for winning the state championship.

“I know these girls will remember the season and this recognition ceremony for the rest of their lives,” he said.
