A group of four Bronxville High School seniors – Joe Daher, Michael Grieco, Grace Sperber and Theo Sperber – recently formed their own team to participate in the Council of Economic Education’s National Economics Challenge competition. They competed among more than 300 teams in New York State and placed eighth overall.
“I’m so proud of the initiative and ability demonstrated by these four students,” said teacher Steve Klurfeld, who advises the team. “To be ranked in the top 3% of state competitors in a contest that we knew virtually nothing about is a real accomplishment.”
The four students have taken four Advanced Placement economics classes with Klurfeld. The National Economics Challenge competition tests micro and macroeconomic principals, as well as knowledge of the world economy. It features two divisions, the “David Ricardo Division” for non-AP students and the tougher “Adam Smith Division” for AP students.
