Fifth grader Andre Kahraman – who designed a logo depicting a Bronxville Bronco holding an American flag while flexing his muscles – has been chosen as the schoolwide winner of a Memorial Day logo competition.
The competition provided students with the opportunity to work independently or in groups and challenged them to create a design that embodied Memorial Day and the Bronxville community. Chosen out of hundreds of entries, Kahraman’s winning design will be the central logo for the 2020 Memorial Day festivities, swag and advertisements.
“Andre designed a logo that not only embodies both Memorial Day and the Bronxville community, but it was also a unique concept that had not yet been seen in years past,” teacher Derrick DiRienzo said.
Members of the elementary school PTA whittled down the submissions to the top 20 before the Student Council members narrowed down the submissions to the top three. They collaborated to decide which designs met the criteria set forth in the contest.
“We hope that students have gained a feeling of pride and dedication to their community and the realization that their creativity can hold a place in Bronxville history,” DiRienzo said.
