Smiles and excited chatter filled K-12 classrooms across the Bronxville School on Sept. 5, which marked the first day of the 2018-2019 school year. Equipped with new books and school supplies, students were ready to seek out new learning opportunities, see their friends and meet new teachers.
Throughout the building, teachers greeted them with warm smiles and welcomed them back for another fulfilling academic year. They also guided their students through the rules of their new classrooms and expectations for the year, helped them organize their supplies and challenged them to a variety of reading and writing activities. During recess, elementary school students played on the new playground, which was rebuilt over the summer and ready on opening day. Meanwhile, middle school students located their new classrooms and greeted their teachers. Prior to attending their first class, ninth-grade students met with members of the Freshmen Transition Leaders team, who gave them tours of the building, helped them find their classrooms and answered questions so they could make a smooth transition to high school.
“It’s good to be back,” said sophomore Alex Doukas, who added that she’s looking forward to taking Advanced Placement Art History this year and exploring new topics. “[The first day of school] definitely brings excitement. It’s hard work, but it’s very enjoyable to be with your friends every day.”
