Bronxville High School students and educators have made the holidays a little brighter for veterans at the New York State Veterans’ Home at Montrose by generously donating more than 100 gifts to them.
“It is always amazing how supportive the Bronxville School community is,” said Dana Landesman, a social studies teacher and sophomore class adviser who spearheaded the project after answering the facility’s plea for help two years ago. “Teachers and students alike contributed to helping provide our veterans with a holiday gift.”
As part of the holiday gift drive, which was led by the sophomore class, the students collected sweaters and socks, among other gifts, to fulfill the veterans’ wishes. They wrapped the gifts on Dec. 17 before Landesman dropped off the donations.
“Wrapping and providing the gifts brought us together and allowed for us to repay, in a small way, these individuals for their sacrifices in serving our country,” sophomore Isabelle Kennedy said.
The New York State Veterans’ Home at Montrose provides quality care to veterans in need of skilled nursing and rehabilitation services.
