‘Rumors’ Fly as Bronxville High School Stages a Hilarious Fall Play
Bronxville, NY

A talented group of Bronxville High School students will get audiences to laugh out loud when they present “Rumors,” one of Neil Simon’s most popular plays of the 20th century, as their fall play from Oct. 24-26. Under the leadership of theater director Robert Cross, the cast boasts 10 actors and 25 students supporting them behind the scenes.

“Over the past month and a half, our talented actors have been mining each and every laugh out of Simon’s collection of self-centered narcissists and neurotics,” Cross said. “I am so proud of this cast and crew. They have been pouring their hearts and souls into this show. We are so excited to share ‘Rumors’ with an audience and hear their inevitable response – lots and lots of laughter.”

The play is set in suburban Westchester in 1990, where four couples arrive at the home of the deputy New York City mayor and his wife to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. However, the guests soon discover that there are no servants, the hostess is missing and the deputy mayor has been shot. Rumors fly and comic complications arise when the couples do everything possible to get to the bottom of the story and keep that story from the police.

“The cast is also getting a serious kick out of exploring the era their parents grew up in – the ’80s and ’90s – with its distinctive decor, music and anachronisms, like telephones with actual wires,” Cross said.

He noted that he expects cackles, guffaws and belly laughs as the audience enjoys the characters’ bumbling, fumbling and dissembling. The cast is led by Kingston Knecht (Lenny), Isadora Schmidt (Claire), Manny Rivera (Ken), Claire Berkeley (Chris), Peyton Gallo (Cookie), Juan Carlos Diaz (Ernie), Peyton Levine (Cassie), Eamon Sullivan (Glenn), Will Sousa (Welch) and Porter Rao (Pudney).

Performances will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 5 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at https://cur8.com/25876/project/126085.
