Bronxville High School student Brendan Morrisroe has earned second place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition. He entered the competition for Post No. 7765 in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in honor of his grandfather, who served as post commander for Bernardsville, New Jersey. In his essay, Brendan explored the greatest attributes of democracy.
“His essay did well in the competition because you could tell in his writing and in his voice how passionate he is about democracy,” high school counselor Deana Hasandjekaj said. “I am so proud of him. He has such a bright future ahead of him.”
The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in future generations. Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves regarding a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 25,000 students from across the country enter to win educational scholarships and incentives through the program.
