Seven members of the Bronxville High School Model United Nations Club – who stepped into the shoes of United Nations ambassadors to debate a variety of current issues – earned awards at the Princeton Model United Nations Conference, held at Princeton University from Nov. 15-18.
At the prestigious conference, the student-delegates participated on various committees, drafted resolutions, made alliances with other delegates and advocated their positions. Having learned about the specific country they had been assigned to, each student understood the complexity of resolving different problems and current issues.
As a result of their outstanding performances, the following students earned awards:
• Patrick Mooney, a senior, and Jack Kochansky, a senior, earned Honorable Mention for representing Canada in the Disarmament and International Security Committee, which dealt with demilitarization, international issues and obstacles to peace that affect the international community and seeks out solutions to the challenges in the global security regime.
• James Ferguson, a junior, and Olivia Lewis, a senior, earned the Verbal Commendation award for representing Peru in the Economic and Financial Committee, which dealt with issues relating to economic growth and development on a global scale.
• Catherine Burnell, a senior, and Nina Veru, a senior, earned the Verbal Commendation award for representing Canada in the Economic and Financial Committee, which dealt with issues relating to economic growth and development on a global scale.
• Ines Munchenbach, a junior, earned the Outstanding Delegate award for her outstanding performance portraying judge Geoffrey Henderson in the International Criminal Court (ICC) committee, which is an international tribunal that investigates and tries individuals charged with the gravest crimes of concern to the international community.
“The Bronxville Model United Nations delegates continue to inspire with their resilience, fortitude and excellence,” said Richard Diefenbach, a history and English teacher and adviser of the Model U.N. club. “The entire Bronxville community should be very proud of the hard work and achievements of these students against fierce competition at Princeton Model United Nations.”
