In honor of Earth Day, Bronxville Elementary School students and their families left the car keys at home and walked to school as part of the annual spring tradition, Walk to School Week, from April 22-26.
“We encourage students to either walk or bike to school, eliminating the environmental impact of motor vehicles as much as possible,” said Derrick DiRienzo, a fourth grade teacher and adviser of the Student Council. “This is a great time to discuss all the ways we can work together to protect the environment and decrease our environmental footprints.”
Walk to School Week is designed to raise awareness about the environment and the importance of getting daily exercise. Students, parents, guardians, siblings and dogs will be walking together on the sidewalks all week to get to school.
