Teachers Develop Enriching PBL Opportunities for Students

A team of Bronxville School teachers recently participated in an extensive Project-Based Learning training under the guidance of Al Summers from the Buck Institute for Education. As a result of the professional learning workshop, they developed 15 new projects that are tailored to their students’ needs and reflective of the staff members’ talents and interests

Seven Seniors Honored as Commended Students

Bronxville High School seniors Clio Dakolias, Charles Gay, Susanna Goodell, Samantha Huss, Paul Magaud, Patrick Mooney and Sophia Sulimirski were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. 

Bronxville Elementary School Celebrates New Playground

Bronxville Elementary School students, teachers, administrators and parents celebrated the new playground with a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 10. The new playground design encourages creativity, risk-taking and collaboration, thanks to the efforts of the entire school community. 

Homecoming Celebrates Bronxville High School Athletes

Bronxville High School is celebrating its student-athletes during an exciting week of homecoming activities from Oct. 9-13. Homecoming week officially opened on Oct. 9 with a Battle of the Banners on the school’s front lawn, followed by a parade and bonfire on Oct. 10, while games were scheduled through Saturday. 

Crayfish Bring Science Lessons to Life for Third-Graders

Equipped with magnifying glasses and their knowledge about living organisms, third-grade students recently took on the roles of scientists to closely examine the structures of crayfish. As part of the Structures of Life unit in Karen Green’s and Stephanie Kennedy’s science classes, the students made observations, took notes and drew conclusions about how the crayfish, which has the ability to regenerate its appendages, has evolved over time in order to survive.

Freshmen, Seniors Build Community on Sharpe Reservation

Members of the freshman class and 54 seniors, who are members of the Freshman Transition Leaders program, climbed over walls together, built race vehicles out of pipes and wheels and collaborated on a variety of outdoor teambuilding activities during their trip to the Fresh Air Fund’s Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill on Oct. 1. 

Two Seniors Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Distinguished Bronxville High School seniors Jack Kochansky and Anton Tarazi – who are known to seek out a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities – have been named semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship competition. 

Bronxville School Bond Projects Update

Since the approval of the Bronxville School’s bond referendum in March, the district has taken significant steps toward building on its future. With the approach of the building’s 100-year anniversary, the district is ensuring the building will meet the programmatic needs of all students.
